Over the last decade, Latvia has significantly developed and expanded the FinTech sector and aims to become a leading European hub. The sector has great potential due to accumulated experience and talent, but achieving it requires clearer national ambitions and strategies.
In autumn 2024, the Ministry of Finance will work with stakeholders to develop a new national FinTech strategy as the current one expires. The creation of a strategy is crucial for ensuring coordinated sectoral development and aligning government policies with strategic goals.
To support this process with independent, evidence-based analysis, the newly established Baltic Finance Center at the Riga Technical University Riga Business School will publish a research report in November 2024. The report will take stock of the performance of the previous strategy, analyse best practices from other countries and provide recommendations for Latvia’s future direction.
The panel will discuss the key themes from the forthcoming report, specifically addressing what objectives should guide sector development over the next decade. This discussion will take place at the October 3 “RIGA COMM 2024” Fintech conference.
Panel participants:
Moderator: Madara Ambrēna, Baltic Finance Center Senior Researcher and Industry Advisor
Participants:
1. Alexander Apostolides, Baltic Finance Center Lead Researcher
2. Tīna Lūse, Managing Director at Fintech Latvia Association
3. Dina Buse, Deputy Director of the Financial Market Policy Department at the Ministry of Finance
4. Marine Krasovska, Head of the Financial Technology Supervision Department at the Bank of Latvia
